4th of July

4th of July was a very fun and crazy day. We started out slicing up 3 heads of lettuce and 9 tomatoes for the swim meet concession stand. The kids had to be there at 7:15. The meet was great and both kids placed in every event and everyone raved about my tomatoes and lettuce. After the meet, we ran home and grabbed our stuff to head off to a BBQ at the neighbors house. We stayed there until 4:00 we caught the metro to head down to the National Mall. There were a lot of people down there! We staked out a spot on the southwest corner of the Washington Monument, where I spent the next 2 hours answering my cell phone and explaining to half our ward where we were. I found it interesting that no one identifies themselves-even if they are someone that has never called my cell phone before. Since there was a live band and millions of people, I couldn't really tell who I was talking to, so it was always a surprise to see who showed up. It wasn't too hot and the kids had lots of fun playing w/ other kids. Our Bishop figured out that waving a large blue umbrella was more effective than shouting into a cellphone. The fireworks were great. Getting home was more of an ordeal than it needed to be, since they shut down the metro for an hour (faulty wiring causing smoke) and the kids were exhausted. Spencer was struggling to stay awake and we told him to go to sleep-he immediately obeyed.

  1. Wow, I'm super jealous. Do you always go down there for fireworks? That is really cool. And I love the picture of you with fireworks and Eddie's head.

  2. Hi Tara....it's me...you'll never have to worry about shouting that into a phone again because it will be another 10 years before I venture into that cluster .
