A new niece for me

My sister and her husband are amazing w/ kids. She never forgets b-days and even writes my kid's letter for no reason. (I'm not talking e-mails-actual letters). He's equally amazing. I think he played catch w/ Spencer at least 10 hours while we were there over Thanksgiving. About 18 months ago they started the adoption process and it has been an emotional journey. Today she got her "travel call" and she leaves on Saturday for South Korea to pick up her baby! I'm so happy for them.

Kid Update

We're hoping Eddie's going through a growth-spurt. He's been really hungry and grumpy. I always cut his hair each winter, but this time I'm worried his golden locks are gone for good. Now he just looks like a kid that needs a haircut-or at least a brush.

Spencer has a love-hate relationship w/ his violin. He has also declared he no longer wants to be a paleontologists. He wants to be either an escape artist or a jockey.

Riley is 11 (I don't know how it's possible either). Her new hobby is baking, which has not been good for our figures. We've had to limit her to once a week. She also wrote the following poem that made me laugh (feel free to substitute primary, nursery, or cub scouts for the title)

Kindergarten
I
BANG!
can’t
SPLISH!
Hear
EWWWW!
You
HA-HA!
I
AHHH!
Use
WAAA!
Earplugs
PHEW!

April

Calvert Marine Museum:

Soccer Star
After years of going to soccer, swim team, piano, violin, scouts...Eddie gets to participate.

Bird watching
I guess we were too loud and scared off the woodcock, so Scott went back w/out us and found it.

Here's a pic of Riley's "April Fool's Pizza". It's pie crust, coconut, and jelly. She even made the crust from scratch and I've got to say it was very flaky and quite perfect.

Supernatural?

My Dad is the principal of an Elementary School on the southside of San Antonio (the very hispanic/Catholic part of the city for those of you not from San Antonio. He posted the following on our family website:
This is an actual photo of a window at my school that was so clean a pigeon thought he could take a short cut. Our head custodian thought is was a sign from God that we are blessed.
Several weeks later he posted the following:
I finally broke my head custodian down and had here clean the "angel window". She told me that the angel had come to protect us and that now some very bad things would happen. The next day the water main in front of the school broke. We had water everywhere, except in the school where it was turned off for four hours. Backhoes and a water geyser created a big hole which can't be fixed until it dries out. Maria looked at the hole then at me and just shook her head. Thursday we had a big storm come through I was in the office with Maria when our NOAA radio went off, we were then told we were under a severe thunderstorm alert. Maria just looked at me and went tsk, tsk, tsk. There is no way that I can convince her that this isn't all my fault. I think she went out and lit some candles
